Beaver Creek eNews 9/23/2019

Dear Neighbors
Maybe we’ll be enjoying some rain (or hail) with our busy week in Beaver Creek.  Please be safe and heed all alerts.  Everything is still being held later in the week, so don’t miss out on the Kiwanis Donation Spaghetti Dinner at the Fire House on Thursday or the free food and activities all day on Saturday in Rollins Park sponsored by Grace Community Lutheran Church, Beaver Creek Trails Coalition and Beaver Creek Kiwanis. Wonderful food and snow cones are free. Don’t miss face painting, games, a car show and trails information.  BC Kiwanis is working with Supervisor Thurman and Yavapai County Facilities to purchase additional playground equipment for Sycamore Park using Kiwanis funds.  Here is an example:
Beaver Creek School currently has a position open for a custodian. If there are any questions, please call the front office and ask for Lyndel Kelley. Applications can be printed off of the website at bcs.k12.az.us or picked up in the main office of the school. An IVP fingerprint clearance card is required.  Information on where to get the fingerprint card is also available from Lyndel.
The final nine fire hydrants (from the more than 50 total) have been installed thanks to our generous community benefactor Eddie Lodge. His bequest of $550,000 dollars toward the fire protection of Beaver Creek has been fulfilled. Fire Chief Terry Keller plans to put any remaining amount after the probate is completed toward the purchase of a water truck which will help serve those in the community whose residences aren’t located near water lines.

September Happenings around BC 9/18/2019

Dear Neighbors
Lots of good things happening around Beaver Creek. Check out the “Good Things” happening at Beaver Creek School. If you missed the Kids at Hope training held at school today, no worries. It will be held again in October.
The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the zoning change request for the 8 acres across Beaver Creek Rd for the potential location of a shopping center with a grocery store. Stipulations requested by the Beaver Creek Community Association which will protect the community in the event that the project falls through were included. These were agreed to by the applicant. The Association reported that the request was in compliance with the community plan, Vision 2020, and with the majority of the community who commented in favor of the zoning change. However, this does NOT mean an immediate start on the project. First a design plan must be approved in conjunction with Development Services and Public Works that will include consideration for traffic circulation, drainage, soil composition, etc. The Dave Wingfield / Beaver Creek Rd intersection may well need some improvements. So probably nothing to see for quite a while.
The community plan was completed with the assistance of a mailed survey to every mailbox and route delivery address in Beaver Creek and to out of area property owners. Additionally, there were public meetings. It is a very important document describing our community. If you would like to read it, here is the link. Please disregard the word Draft at the top. This is the version that was accepted by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors in 2011.
At 10 AM today in the BC Adult Center Kayo Parsons-Korn is presenting slides on Native Gardens and has some seeds to share.  On Saturday at 8 AM is a bird walk at Montezuma Well.  On Monday is the first meeting at 1 PM of the Lake Montezuma Women’s Civic Club at a new location and time.  And be prepared for the Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday and Oktoberfest on the following Saturday.
Enjoying the beginning fall weather,

Update from Sam

The Rimrock Rag doll Crafters had a great second meeting with 2 new members joining us…we are up to 7 now.  Everyone shared, compared and divided up the projects.  We are now cutting fabric for dolls, dresses, shirts and britches.  Completed so far are 6 doll quilts. We even have an artist in our midst that will be painting the faces on the dolls….never fear….non-toxic paint.  We want to thank the folks who have donated….we have a good start on poly fill, but…we will need more.  We also need baskets…..wicker type….old Easter baskets would work great too.  All donations, including cash gifts, should be dropped off at the Kiwanis Clothing Closet.  And we want anyone, who would like to donate time and talent to join us.  If you can sew, flyers are up at the Clothing Closet and the Lake Montezuma post office, (green paper) so you can make plans.  Our time is a gift to the children of this community.  All donations and dolls will be given to the Christmas House.  Sam Fisk

The Christmas House Project is off and running as of an hour ago.  We have five (maybe six) ladies who will be making Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls as well as Amish Dolls for the Christmas House this year to be sold or donated at the shop.  We are just donating them.  Whatever happens after that is fine, whether the dolls are sold to raise funds for the project or given to families.
We need donations of stuffing….polyfluff, cotton or wool, leftover bags or new.  We are excited to be helping the Beaver Creek Kiwanis raise Christmas funds for families and to contribute to our community.  Flyers are up at the Kiwanis Clothes Closet and at the Lake Montezuma Post Office.  So far we have received only one bag.  We desperately need more……lots more!  Thank you in advance to all who help us
